Thermal Readings & Drive Condition

My processor or graphics chip shows elevated heat in Speccy. Should I worry?
Sustained high temperatures often signal obstructed vents, accumulated dust, deteriorating fans, or aggressive overclocking. Compare idle versus load figures, then clean intakes, improve chassis airflow, or recalibrate fan curves accordingly. If readings persist in the danger zone, reduce workload and inspect cooling hardware before silicon degradation occurs.

How reliable are Speccy temperature figures?
Speccy polls onboard sensors through standard Windows interfaces. Calibration tolerances differ by manufacturer, so treat displayed values as practical approximations rather than laboratory precision. Prioritize patterns and deltas over isolated absolute numbers.

Compatibility & Data Accuracy

Why do certain fields read "Unknown" or remain empty?
Not all peripherals expose every datum through public protocols. When a component withholds specific details (for instance, cache tier or exact RAM latency), Speccy intentionally leaves the cell blank instead of fabricating guesses.

Why does Speccy disagree with packaging labels or alternative utilities?
Manufacturers occasionally round specifications for marketing while diagnostic tools expose exact or dynamic figures. Different programs may also tap distinct sensor buses. If a figure seems off, cross-reference with board documentation or the hardware maker's datasheets.

Discovery & Troubleshooting

Speccy fails to list one of my drives or peripherals. Why?
First confirm the device appears inside Windows Device Manager or Disk Management. For external enclosures, verify that the bridge chip forwards S.M.A.R.T. and thermal data. Launching Speccy with elevated privileges can overcome driver or permission barriers.

Some metrics remain fixed at zero. Is this normal?
Certain sensors are disabled at firmware level, reserved for OEM utilities, or update only under defined triggers. Provided the component is recognized and other readings appear sensible, a persistent zero in a non-critical field is typically harmless.

Speccy launches or refreshes slowly on my PC. Any fixes?
Machines hosting numerous disks or sensor arrays may need extra seconds to poll everything. Shut down background applications, update chipset and storage drivers, and disconnect rarely used external peripherals before scanning.

Which Windows releases work with Speccy?
Speccy targets the Windows ecosystem. It is optimized for Windows 10 and Windows 11, with limited backward compatibility where feasible, but it does not operate on macOS or Linux distributions.
